Elevate the voices of those often not heard or misunderstood.Together, let's shine a light on the positive change social work brings to our world. Your contributions will not only capture moments but inspire a brighter future for all.Photos will be on display in the School of Social Work and SMART Hospital building’s Community Commons area for two weeks.

Experience an engaging and thought-provoking art exhibit presented by the Office of Health Promotion: "Don't Sit on the Facts". Using mediums such as photography and mixed media, the exhibit employs informative displays, student artwork, and interactive features to educate visitors on the topic of substance misuse. You are invited to the opening reception on Monday, April 15 from 12 to 1 p.m. for light refreshments and connection. The exhibit will be featured daily from April 15-April 19.

The Master of Fine Arts is a professional graduate degree in the practice of art – unique in that it is the artist's terminal academic degree. The MFA in the Art and Art History Department at UTA offers students a broad range of study and exploration within the areas of Intermedia, Cinematic Arts, Glass, and Design. As a requirement for completion of the degree, candidates are required to present a culminating exhibition demonstrating excellence in their chosen fields.The Spring 2024 exhibition features four artists – Yanina Blanco (design); Christina Childress (intermedia); Nijal Munankarmi (design); and Michael Scogin (intermedia) – showcasing representative works from their time as graduate student artists at UTA.Darryl Lauster, MFA Director states, “This exhibition represents a moment that encapsulates three years of each student’s rigorous conceptual and technical investigation. It reveals the scope and direction of artistic practice in the early 21st century while also testifying to the independent and unique vision of each artist.”

The Pilates Method is a full-body conditioning program that develops deep abdominal and back strength, together with increased flexibility and ease of movement.  This class is aimed at “core stability,” designed to work on lengthening muscles to help tone and strengthen muscles, using breathing to enhance relaxation. 

The Center for Theory's next colloquium in the “Creativity in Academia,” will be Monday, April 15, at 12 p.m. in UH 432. Dr. Natalia Trigo, assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages at UTA, will present “Bridging the Gap: Exploring the Synergy Between Creative and Academic Writing.”Creative and academic writing are often seen as opposites. In this talk, Dr. Natalia Trigo reflects on her own experience as a creative writer and a scholar to showcase the commonalities between creative and academic writing, and how they can mutually enrich one another. The presence of creative writers within academia has been increasing over the last couple of decades, leading to interesting transformations in some creative works. Dr. Trigo will discuss some of the issues and questions that have arisen from this phenomenon. Bringing examples from both writers and academics (and often writers who work within academia,) Dr. Trigo will illustrate how research, organization, and discipline are essential for the creative craft; and how creative writing can enhance the practice of academic writing by emphasizing error, curiosity, attention to form, and finding new ways of interrogating the world. Finally, she will provide some strategies to help both writers and academics overcome perfectionism and rediscover the joy in knowledge, allowing them to navigate the challenging aspects of this craft.
