- Oct 1512:00 AMSee the Unseen: A Global Photo CompetitionAs part of this semester’s International Education Week celebrations, the Office of International Education invites all Mavericks to submit a photograph entry to be displayed at the University Center’s gallery during the week of November 18-22, 2024. The show, See the Unseen, focuses on showcasing the often-overlooked elements of culture and community that shape the world around us.Student submissions will be assessed by a panel of judges, and prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place student entries in three different themes.Maverick community members may submit one photo per category for consideration across any of the following categories:Intercultural Immersion: Captures moments where individuals are immersed in the culture of their host country (U.S. or abroad). Photos might showcase students engaging in everyday activities that reflect the unique aspects of the host country's culture, or participating in local events, traditions, or festivals. Photos may also capture a moment or scene, which creates a culturally immersive or -reflective experience for the viewer. Culture & Landscapes: Highlight the natural beauty and landscapes of host country locations (U.S. or abroad). Participants can submit photographs of landscapes, environments, iconic landmarks, scenic vistas, or natural wonders that play a significant role in shaping the host culture. Examples include images of geographic formations tied to cultural myths, or landscapes which impact the current economic and cultural circumstances of a host community. Cultural Crossings: Photos that capture the interactions and connections between people from different cultures OR photos which illustrate the ways that cross-cultural trade and culture exchange impacts daily life in the host culture. Photos might include moments of cross-cultural friendship and collaboration between people, or scenes which re-present an example of the mixing point of multiple cultures in the environment or in an object in the host country (U.S. or abroad). We welcome Mavericks of any and all US- and international experiences to participate - photos from your travel to visit family, study abroad, volunteer, or sightsee in a country different from your own are equally welcome.Submissions will be accepted through October 31, and contenders will be displayed in a UC Gallery Show for International Education Week, November 18-22 (Gallery Opening Event details: https://mavorgs.campuslabs.com/engage/event/9494869).
- Oct 15All dayAIDS Memorial Quilt DisplayCleve Jones, a gay rights activist from San Francisco, came up with the idea for the AIDS Memorial Quilt in 1985 to honor loved ones and create more awareness of the impact of AIDS. Created in the height of the AIDS epidemic, the Quilt helped to educate people about the disease as well as memorialize the people who lost their lives to AIDS. The Quilt’s nearly 50,000 panels include at least one from every U.S. state in addition to panels from a few dozen countries.A section of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and a small exhibit on the history of the quilt will be on display on the sixth floor of Central Library from Monday, Oct14 - Oct. 18, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day.Attend an open house event for refreshments, activities, and reflections about the AIDS Memorial Quilt on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 12 -2 p.m.For questions, reach out to Kathryn Slover at kathryn.slover@uta.edu.
- Oct 1511:30 AMEDGE Employer Panel & Networking DayThis in-person event will provide an opportunity for students to hear from and interact with a panel of four Mavs EDGE partners. Employers will give brief introductions and an overview of their companies and internship programs, and students will be invited to ask questions. Following the panel discussion, students will be invited to network with panelists and additional employer partners during timed, rotational sessions.

Improving strength, more elongated muscles, and flexibility are key. Each class is designed to leave you feeling invigorated, challenged, and inspired.
