Jepkemboi Selected As WAC Cross Country Women's Athlete Of The Week

ARLINGTON, Texas – For the first time this season and the third time in her collegiate career, Matro Jepkemboi is named the Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Saturday, September 7.

The reigning WAC Freshman of the Year picked up right where she left off in 2023 in her first race back in 2024 after missing the opening meet.

At the annual Gerald Richey UTA Invitational this past Saturday, September 7, Jepkemboi led the charge for the women's cross country team when she finished second overall with a time of 17:33.90. This helped propel the women to a third-place team finish overall in the 5k.

Jepkemboi becomes the first Maverick on both the women's and men's side to take home the weekly conference honors this season.

UTA is ranked 11th in the South Central Region and updated regional rankings drop next Monday, September 16.

The Mavs and Jepkemboi return to action this upcoming Friday, September 13, as they travel to College Station to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational.
