Cross Country Wraps Up Third Meet Of The Season At The Texas A&M Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington cross country teams finished in the top 10 at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday morning at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
 
The men finished seventh as a team with 188 points while the women finished eighth overall with 214 points.
 
The meet was highlighted by a top 10 finish for Matro Jepkemboi, who came in 10th overall with a season's best time of 17:26.8. Winnie Kipsang placed in the top 20, coming in at 17th overall with a new 5k personal best time of 17:51.8.
 
Freshman Emilia Mandl knocked over ten seconds off her personal best in the 5k, finishing with a time of 18:52.7 and placing 61st overall. Lauren Walls-Portillo finished 66th overall with a time of 18:59.9. Rounding out the top five finishers for the women was Clair Compher who finished 93rd overall with a time of 19:34.6.
 
On the men's side, Patrick Estes led the charge for the Mavericks with a top 25 finish, coming in at 24th overall with a time of 24:21.0. Brian Guevara placed 31st with a new personal best time of 24.33.2 in the 8k. Andrés Gurrola also finished the 8k with a new personal best of 24:49.8 for a 42nd place finish overall.
 
Jackson Cichon finished in the top 50, placing 45th overall with a time of 24:52.2. Daniel Alamilla rounded out the top five finishers for the Mavs, placing 61st overall with a time of 25:09.6, a new personal best in the 8k for the sophomore.
 
NEXT UP
The Mavs will be off next week and return to action in two weeks at the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State on Saturday, September 28, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The women's 6k is set to kick off at 8:15 a.m. with the men's 8k to follow at 8:45 a.m. from the Greiner Family Cross Country Course.
