UT Arlington Host Tarleton For Final Regular-Season Matchup
ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team will face off against the Tarleton State Texans in the final conference-series matchup of the season in a three-game series, May 17-18, at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Due to inclement weather, Friday will consist of a doubleheader that will start at 2 p.m. and game two of the doubleheader will begin approximately 35 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start with Senior festivities taking place 30 minutes before the game.

- The Mavericks currently sit in 6th place in the WAC standings with a conference record of 14-12. By the end of the weekend, the Mavs can jump all the way up to 2nd place in the conference or can finish in 8th place. The Mavs have already locked up a spot in the WAC Baseball Championship, however, seeding is still undetermined as most teams in the conference sit just a game or two outside of each other.
- Tyson Pointer currently leads the team with 64 total hits throughout the season. The Dallas native has also tallied the most at bats on the squad with 209 at bats and has recorded a team-leading 6 stolen bases on the season, nabbing a base in all six of his attempts. Pointer, during a conference series against Utah Valley three weeks ago, he mashed 2 homeruns and recorded 4 RBIs. In the series against Houston, Pointer roped in another 2 HRs (One was inside-the-park) and was a triple shy of the cycle in Sunday's loss to Houston on April 28. Pointer also recorded 3 stolen bases in the loss to Baylor on April 30th.
- Zach Norris has dominated his last two starts against Sacramento State and Seattle U, ringing up 14 batters in 13 innings pitched. The Senior from Paris, Texas gave up just 4 hits and 0 earned runs in his start to help propel the Mavs to its first shutout win of the season against Sacramento State. The senior currently sits 5th in the conference with 67 strikeouts on the season.
- The Mavericks boast the 2nd best walks allowed per nine innings in the NCAA with a mark of 2.81. Caylon Dygert leads the way on the team with a 1.39 mark on the season, walking just 13 batters in 84.1 innings pitched and ranks 7th in the entire NCAA. Zach Norris, a native of Paris, Texas, ranks 42nd in the NCAA in walks allowed per nine innings with a rate of 1.81 walks allowed per nine innings. Additionally, Norris currently ranks 32nd in the NCAA in strikeout-to-walk ratio with a mark of 4.79.
- Ryan Black, the sophomore out of Grand Prairie, Texas, ranks T-2nd in the WAC with 20 doubles on the season, which ranks T-20th in the nation. Black also has 3 triples on the season which is the most on the Mavs and also ranks T-2nd in the conference.
- Ryan Ellis, who has drawn a team-leading 31 walks, ranks T-6th in the conference in reaching a base on balls. During the game on Friday, Apr. 19, against Utah Valley, Ellis tied the program's single-game hitting record by racking in 5 hits in the win. The Arizona native went 5-for-5 with 3 doubles with an RBI. He also sits 2nd on the team in batting average with a mark of .304.
- Parker Airhart leads the team in homeruns with 10 longballs on the season and has also brought in the most RBIs on the team with 37.
- Both Ryan Black and Tyson Pointer have started in all 52 games this season, the only Mavericks to do so.
OPPONENT HISTORY
This will be the 25th – 27th all time meeting between the Mavs and the Texans. The Mavs compile a record of 16-1 when hosting at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Mavericks hold an all-time record of 21-3 against the Texans. The last win for UTA came on Mar. 21 of last season in a 6-5 win. The last time the Mavs lost a home game against the Texans was on Apr. 14, 1998.
ON DECK
The Mavs will head out to Mesa, Arizona for the WAC Baseball Championship from May 21-25. The tournament will be played at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, the Oakland A's spring training ballpark.
