Van Hook Resigns As Head Baseball Coach

ARLINGTON, Texas – After two seasons leading the University of Texas Arlington baseball program, head coach Clay Van Hook is resigning to pursue other opportunities.

In two seasons, Van Hook led UTA baseball to 51 wins, the highest two-season victory total since the 2018-19 seasons (54). He orchestrated a 14-win turnaround in 2023, as the Mavericks won 29 games and advanced to the WAC Tournament semifinals.

A signature of the Van Hook era was playing the toughest opponents possible, and his Mavericks did just that. UTA played the 42nd toughest non-conference schedule in 2023, and the 20th-toughest non-conference schedule this past season. Among the signature triumphs by the Mavs were a pair of wins over both TCU and Northwestern, a victory over Boston College, and knocking top-ranked Grand Canyon into the losers bracket in the 2023 WAC Tournament.

"Clay led a resurgence in our baseball program that has restored our championship aspirations," said UTA Athletics Director Jon Fagg. "He was diligent in rebuilding our program to contender status and made a significant impact during his time as a Maverick. We know the next move will again be impactful for Clay and his entire family, and we wish them all the best in this next chapter."
