MANHATTAN, Kansas – UT Arlington's men's golf team opened competition with rounds one and two of the K-State Wildcat Invitational from Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kansas, on Monday. The Mavericks shot a combined 606, with a second-round team score of 300.
 
"Michael played solid all day," head coach Logan Goulding said following play on Monday. "He made a few good putts in round two to keep his round going. Unfortunately he stumbled a bit coming in, but it was still a solid day overall. Cameron really played well all day. He played 33-of-36 great holes, but just had a few mistakes early in round one that cost him. I'm proud of how he stayed in it even after a rough start in the first round and posted one of the lowest rounds in the tournament in round two."
 
Sophomore Michael Chevalier (+4) and junior Cameron Beck (+6) led the way for the Mavs on day one.
 
Chevalier birdied twice in round one, on Nos. 10 and 16 on his way to a three-over 75, while bettering his performance in round two. He birdied six times in the final round, on Nos. 2, 5, 7, 16, 17 and 18, respectively to finish one-over with a 73.
  
Beck's day was a tale of two rounds, or more so a tale of a few tough holes in the early going – totaling a six-over performance with an 81 due to a difficult stretch on Nos. 12, 14 and 17 in the opening round and a team-best round of 69 in round two. The Mansfield, Texas, native carded a pair of birdies (on No. 3 and No. 12) and an eagle on No. 16.

UT Arlington is back in action Tuesday morning for the third and final round of the Wildcat Invitational with tee times set for 8:30 a.m. CT.
