Day 2 Of The Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open Concludes For Men's Tennis
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Day two of the Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open hosted by the Islanders of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi wrapped up after a jam-packed day full of tennis.
Semifinal doubles action started off the day, and that pitted the team of Yazid Lahjomri and Ian Uraga against Pedro Sasso and Andres Medus. Lahjomri and Uraga defeated Sasso and Medus 7-5 to move on the East-Finals of the red draw, set to kick off at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sep. 15, morning.
In singles action, Sasso moved on to the East-Finals of the purple draw after defeating UTRGV's Benjamin McDonald 6-3, 6-3. Sasso will take on Dennis Dutine of Abilene Christian in the finals.
In the East-Semifinals of the green draw, Lahjomri defeated Santiago Flyckt of UTSA 7-5, 6-1. He will move on to the finals where he will match up with Charalampos Fouzas of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
Medus dropped a tough one to ACU's Daniel Linkuns-Morozovs 6-4, 6-4, 12-10 in the East-Semifinals of the blue draw.
Meethre Barot fell in a close East-Seminfinal match in the red draw to Alejandro Hernandez of Incarnate Word 6-4, 6-4, 10-8.
Uraga lost to Matthieu Coignet of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in the East Semifinals of the orange draw by a final score of 7-5, 6-2.
Action concludes Sunday, September 15, starting off with doubles play at 9 a.m. sharp. Singles action for both men and women will continue throughout the day as the courts open.
