Espinosa Falls In Opening Round Of NCAA Singles Tournament

STILLWATER, Okla.-- UT Arlington's Joan Torres Espinosa struggled to overcome Ole Miss' Nikola Slavic in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Tournament on Monday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

No. 39 Slavic played a strong match against No. 110 Espinosa as he dropped only one game. Espinosa managed to secure one game in the opening set before Slavic closed out for the 6-1 lead.

The next set followed in a similar manner as Espinosa could not bridge the gap and even the score. Slavic dominated for the 6-0 win to move on to the next round of the tournament.

Espinosa ends his season with an impressive 17-6 record as the Mavericks' primary Court 1 player. In tournament play, he went 6-3 overall after his fall season and spring match.
