Mavs Drop Series Opener, Bounce Back With 5-3 Win

ARLINGTON, Texas – After dropping the series opener, the UT Arlington softball team bounced back to victory with a 5-3 win over Seattle U on Friday from Allan Saxe Field.
 
With the doubleheader split, the Mavs now sit on an overall record of 21-31 and 11-13 in conference play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Seattle U (L, 4-1)
Despite scoring first, the Mavericks dropped the series opener with the Redhawks. UTA was led by senior Morgan Westbrook who went on to tab a 2-3 performance at the plate.
 
Of the Mavericks' five hits, freshman Kaitlyn Sailor (1-3), Jessica Adams (1-2) and Nikki Donahue (1-2) contributed with one hit apiece. On the other hand, fifth year Lindsey Franklin was responsible for plating UTA's lone run in the bottom of the first with a fielder's choice.
 
Senior Gracie Bumpurs tossed her fifth complete game of the season as she allowed three earned runs off eight hits. The righty came away with two strike outs across 32 batters faced. With UTA unable to battle back, Bumpurs was handed the loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Seattle U (W, 5-3)
UTA found its spark, leading to a 5-3 victory over SU. With a perfect 3-3 performance in the box, freshman Sailor tabbed one RBI and three runs scored.
 
Camille Corona (1-4), Donahue (1-3, 1 RBI) and Marley Neises (1-2, 2 RBI) played vital roles in the Mavs' success as the squad put up six hits.
 
Adams earned her 16th start in the circle for UTA this season as the junior went on to throw the full seven innings, recording a strike out. The Texas native allowed two earned runs off seven hits, leading to her sixth win overall.

ON DECK
UTA will wrap up its final series of the regular season with a 12 p.m. start on Saturday, May 4 from Allan Saxe Field as the say will serve as Senior Day for the Mavericks' eight seniors.
