Softball Battles, Comes Out On Top Against Seattle U
SEATTLE – In a thrilling battle with Seattle U, the UT Arlington softball team soared to victory with a 7-6 win over the Redhawks Thursday night in an elimination game of the WAC Tournament.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. #4 Seattle U (W, 7-6)
The Mavericks totaled just five hits, but it proved to be enough as UTA's Zaia Castruita and Jessica Adams led the way with two RBI apiece.
Senior Morgan Westbrook was responsible for getting the Mavs on the board early with an RBI-single through the right side in the top of the first that scored the first run of the game. The Redhawks took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth, but UTA responded big with a five-run sixth inning.
Adams evened the scored at 4-4 with a clutch, two-run RBI-single up the middle before Castruita put the Mavs on top with a sacrifice fly to right field. A Redhawk error allowed for two insurance runs to come across for the Mavericks, giving them a three-run lead.
Coming away with one hit each was Camille Corona (1-4) and Kaylee Cavazos (1-2). Now, Corona sits on 67 hits overall with a .404 batting average.
Head coach Kara Dill utilized four pitchers against Seattle U as senior Gracie Bumpurs got the start – her 16th of the season. The righty threw just two innings before fifth year Emilie Hoelscher made a brief appearance as she retired two of three batters faced.
Junior Adams entered the game in the sixth inning and allowed four earned runs off seven hits. Freshman Abi Gutierrez faced four batters before Bumpurs reentered the game and shut things down. With the Mavericks' victory, Adams received her 7th win on the season and Bumpurs with her first save.
