Buck Em' Rewind: Women's Outdoor Track And Field

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Isabel Borrego's record setting performance in the women's 5000m highlights a successful day one at the 44 Farms Team Invitational for the UT Arlington track and field teams.
In one of the final events of the day, Borrego posted a personal best as well as a meet record performance of 17:17.88 to claim the top spot in the 5000m. She bested her previous personal record by nearly three whole seconds while posting her best time of the outdoor season. She entered the day sitting 5th in the WAC standings in the 5000m and shall remain in the top five when the weekend is over.
The day kicked off with the start of the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon. Levi Bontke currently sits in 3rd in the decathlon with 3526 points while his twin brother Levi Bontke is in 4th with 3451 points. Afert four events in the heptathlon, Khya Walton-Ravenell sits in 6th with 2604 points while teammate Carla Guerrero is in 7th with 2492 points.
In the men's pole vault, Randon Gray took second place after a vault of 5.28m. It's his second-best performance of the outdoor season, falling just short of the 5.30m he vaulted at the UTA Invitational and at the Texas Relays. He currently sits second overall in the WAC standings.
Austin Nkwoparah placed 4th in the men's discus throw with a personal best throw of 52.04m. Entering the meet, Nkwoparah sat in 15th in the WAC standings before outperforming his season's best throw by over 10m which should move him into the top five in the WAC standings.
In the women's pole vault, Simona Cabella finished 4th overall after posting a personal best vault of 3.95m. Entering the meet, she had the second-best mark in the WAC standings.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Scott Frazier posted a personal best in the men's pole vault with a mark of 5.16m.
- Claire Compher ran a season's best time of 18:35.55 in the women's 5000m.
- Alexis Cain posted a personal best in the women's 200m with a time of 23.69.
- Maddison Pippins posted an outdoor personal record in the women's 200m with a time of 23.70.
- Freshman Esther Shaba posted a personal best of 24.55 in the women's 200m.
- In the men's 200m, eight Mavs posted their best times of the season: Khalid Mendez (20.76 and finished 5th), Davontay Kennedy (21.16), Javaris Bonner (21.24), Jarvis Miles (21.25), Zion Allen (21.54), Adam Herrera(21.57), Jayden Blakey (22.02), and Christian Jimmerson (22.68).
- Zaire Moore tied her personal best in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.41 and a 6th place finish.
- Andres Gurrola posted a personal best of 14:57.41 in the men's 5000m, finishing 4th.
- In the men's 5000m, Brian Guevara ran a personal best of 15:14.71.
- Princess Miller leaped a personal best of 5.12m in the women's long jump.
- Bryce Vaughn posted a season's best leap of 6.73m in the men's long jump.

"We had a lot of improvements on a solid day one here in College Station," said head coach John Sauerhage. "From Austin in the discus, Scott and Simona in the pole vault, Khalid in the 200m down to Isabel's record setting day, both teams had a great day."

The 44 Farms Team Invitational will wrap up tomorrow, Apr. 6, will a full slate of events beginning with the completion of the heptathlon and decathlon starting at 11 a.m.
