UTA Women's Basketball Officially Opens Practice

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team opened practice on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the College Park Center marking the official start of college basketball's new season.

The Mavericks are coming off their best regular season and tournament finish in the Western Athletic Conference, finishing fifth in the regular season and fourth in the tournament. With eight returners and five newcomers, the Lady Mavs are poised for big things in 2024-25.

"We have a lot of new faces, but we also have a lot of returning players who have done an exceptional job in leading this group," said head coach Shereka Wright. "I liked the energy in our first day of practice, we saw some things that carried over from summer and we're excited."

Of the eight returners, Avery Brittingham, Nya Threatt and Taliyah Clark have a combined 96 starts last season. Brittingham is the lone All-WAC performer returning for the Lady Mavs after averaging 13.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest last season while leading the conference in double-doubles (12) and rebounding (276 total rebounds and in rebounds per game). Clark returns as the Lady Mavs' best threat from deep after shooting .347 from beyond the arc, as well as establishing herself as a scorer after averaging 12.3 points per game last season which was third-best on the team. Threatt provides valuable minutes and experience at the point guard position after averaging 27 minutes, fourth-most, across 33 starts while dishing out 101 assists, third most.

Kali Haizlip and Miraya Perkins look to build off last season, in which they provided valuable minutes off the bench. Alexsyah Goudeau looks to return to her freshman season form, a season in which she appeared in 31 games making 11 starts, to just appearing in 15 games last season due to injury. Jamaya Perry and Aubrey Reid both look to return from injury.

Some new faces are also in the mix, including Koi Love who comes to UTA after stops at Power Five programs (USC, Arizona and Vanderbilt), Abilene Christian transfer Aspen Thornton (11.9 ppg last season), SFA transfer Zoe Nelson (7.8 ppg & 7.3 rpg), Idaho State transfer Laura Bello (8.3 ppg & 6.4 rpg) and true freshman Kendal Robinson.

"Stacking days and not wasting days is a big part of us," said coach Wright. "I like the versatility of this group and we want to continue to focus on those things moving forward."

Season ticket deposits for the 2024-25 UT Arlington basketball season remain open as the Mavs continue preparation for the coming season. With a one-time deposit of only $50/seat, fans can lock in their season ticket(s) at the state-of-the-art College Park Center.
