UTA Hosts Maverick Classic in Fall Opener

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's golf team will begin its 2024-25 season with its very own two-day Maverick Classic beginning Monday, Sept. 16 from Tierra Verde Golf Club.
 
This event will mark the first time the Mavericks have hosted in six years. Tierra Verde sits just 25 minutes from UTA's campus as students and fans can watch head coach Catherine Matranga and the Maverick squad in action in their own backyard.
 
UTA will begin the year with the following four-player lineup based off season-opening qualifying:

INSIDE THE LINEUP
Nirjara Gulhane

  • Gulhane ended the 2023-24 season with a 79.1 scoring average that was highlighted by a low-round 73 which came from Utah Valley's Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational (9/12/23). The sophomore tabbed a T-24 finish back at Sam Houston's Bearkat Invite (9/25-26/23) with rounds of 76-79 as the event was shortened to two rounds due to inclement weather.

Kamri Gabel

  • One season ago, Gabel competed in 11 tournaments across 32 rounds as she accumulated a scoring average of 77.3. The veteran turned in a record-setting 65 back at the first round of Utah Valley's event after putting up three consecutive rounds of even par or better. The Texas native's best finish of the season came back from Houston Christian's Husky Invitational (T-7, 3/11-12/24).

Nitisha Manikandesh

  • Since transferring to UTA from Purdue in 2023, Manikandesh completed her first season as a Maverick with a 77.7 scoring average – fourth best on the team. The junior played in 10 events and 27 rounds as she wrapped up the season with back-to-back individual top-10 finishes: ORU Spring Invitational (4/8-9/24), WAC Championship (4/19-21/24).

Tarini Bhoga

  • Bhoga will make her collegiate debut this week, earning the final spot in Matranga's lineup. While at Centennial High School, the Frisco product recorded 13 top-10 finishes, including two NTPGA major wins and three top-3 finishes. Bhoga was the 2024 Individual 5A Texas State Champion and went on to tab three individual wins as a senior.

NEXT UP
UTA will immediately turn around and head to Huntsville, Texas to compete in Sam Houston's Bearkat Invitational which is set to begin on Sept. 23 from Bearkat Golf
Course.
