Four Mavericks Secure Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors
ARLINGTON– The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Wednesday evening the 2023-24 women's tennis award recipients and all-conference selections. Four Mavericks earned honors as they head into the WAC Tournament on Thursday.
Primary Court 1 singles player Tara Gorinsek finishes her impressive regular season with a spot on the All-WAC First Singles Team. This marks her fourth all-conference award as she earned a spot on the First All-WAC Doubles Team and Second All-WAC Singles team her sophomore season, as well as a spot in Second All-Sun Belt Team her freshman year. She currently holds an 11-8 overall record while going 7-7 in dual match play. She finished regular season play with a 4-3 WAC record.
Gorinsek is coming off an impressive win over Grand Canyon's No. 113 ranked and WAC Player of the Year Natasha Puehse. In addition, she earned strong wins over North Texas, Texas A&M, Air Force, Houston and Rice in non-conference play.
Sarina Reinertsen earned her fifth career all-conference recognition with a spot on the All-WAC Second Singles Team. In previous years, she earned spots on the First All-WAC Doubles Team, Second All-WAC Singles Team, Second All-Sun Belt Team and Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. Reinertsen holds an impressive 20-11 overall record and 11-7 in dual match play. She finished WAC play in the win column, where she posted a 4-3 record.
In non-conference play, she has taken down opponents from UT San Antonio, North Texas and Houston as the primary Court 2 player. She also earned some impressive wins during the fall season against Rice, Air Force and Texas Tech.
Senior doubles team of Bruna Casasampere and Francisca Vergara earned their first career all-conference recognition as All-WAC Second Doubles Team. The two have been solid on Courts 1 and 2 for the Mavs, holding a 14-4 overall record. They only took one loss in WAC play as they finished the regular season 5-1 in conference matches.
In non-conference play, the pair earned impressive wins over UTSA, Tulsa and Houston. They also had a strong showing against Southern Methodist University, where they secured a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
The Mavericks are set for their first round of the WAC Tournament on Thursday as the No. 3 seed, where they look to take on No. 6 seeded UT Rio Grande Valley. If they win, they will face the winner between No. 2 Tarleton State and No. 7 Stephen F. Austin at noon on Friday.
