Mavs Power Past Denver In Straight Sets On Final Day Of Horned Frog Invitational
FORT WORTH, Texas – The UT Arlington volleyball team (10-2) concluded their non-conference portion of the 2024 schedule with a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) over the Pioneers of Denver on the final day of the Horned Frog Invitational.
With the victory, the Mavericks end a two-game skid and carry a 10-2 overall record, the best overall record of any Western Athletic Conference team, into their WAC opener on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Grand Canyon.
The Mavs put together a balanced attack with 47 kills as a team, led by Brianna Ford and Sjakkie Donkers with 13 apiece. Ford had a team high five service aces to go along with six digs, three blocks and one assist. Donkers finished with eight digs, second most for the match, and two blocks.
Paige Reagor produced double digit kills for the match with 11. She guided the Mavs on the defensive end of the court with six blocks while adding one dig.
Mollie Blank had a match high 28 assists along with throwing in one kill, two service aces, six digs and one block.
Samantha Glenn had a match high 10 digs to go along with five assists on the afternoon. Sophie Ocampo had a team high .667 hitting percentage with five kills as well as four digs and three blocks.
Set one the Mavs came out scorching hot, scoring the set's first three points. Denver managed to pull within one, 4-3, before UTA would rattle off nine straight points to take a 13-3 lead. UTA would stay in command for the set, with their lead remaining five or more points for set one.
Set two was back and forth, with multiple ties and lead changes before the Mavs went on a 3-0 run to end the set and go up 2-0.
Set three saw Denver go up 9-8 before the Mavs would score four straight to go up 12-9. UTA would hold the lead for the remainder of the set to earn the sweep, their eighth of the season.

The Mavs travel to Phoenix, Arizona to start conference play against Grand Canyon this upcoming Thursday, Sept. 26, from inside GCU Arena at 8 p.m. central time.
