Chris Leinberger, "The Future of American Cities and What That Means for Urban Universities"

    The UTA College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs and College of Business, with the support of the Arlington Economic Development Corporation, the Nehemiah Company, and LBL Architects, and in collaboration with the Downtown Arlington Annual Meeting presented by Texas Trust, are pleased to present a lecture by Chris Leinberger.



    Leinberger is the Emeritus Charles Bendit Distinguished Scholar, Professor and Chair, Center for Real Estate, and Urban Analysis at the George Washington University. He is also a land use strategist, proptech start-up co-founder, real estate developer, professor, researcher, and author. He balances business realities with social and environmental issues. Mr. Leinberger is the Co-founding Partner and Managing Director of Places Platform, LLC, a proptech start-up developing an AI-driven, big data platform encompassing 100% of the real estate in the U.S., and the founding partner of Arcadia Land Company, a New Urbanism/transit-oriented development firm dedicated to land stewardship and building walkable communities, focused on the Philadelphia metropolitan area.



    Leinberger established the real estate and research programs at George Washington University School of Business (2012-2020) and is now the Emeritus Charles Bendit Distinguished Scholar, Research Professor and Chair of the Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis. He received the 2020 Land Economics Society (LAI) Distinguished Educator Award. Leinberger also established the graduate real estate program at the University of Michigan (2005-2012). He has been a Visiting and Nonresident Senior Fellow of the Metropolitan Policy Program of Brookings Institution in Washington, DC (2005-2018).



    Mr. Leinberger has written two books and contributed chapters for 15 others. This includes The Option of Urbanism, Investing in a New American Dream, which Planetizen selected as one of the top 10 books of 2008. He has been an Op-Ed Contributor for the New York Times and has written articles for The Atlantic Monthly, Urban Land, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Washington Monthly, Washington Post, Canada’s National Post, the Nation, and Los Angeles Times, among others.



    Mr. Leinberger received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Swarthmore College, where he double majored in Political Science and Urban Sociology, and received an MBA from the Harvard Business School, concentrating in corporate strategic planning. Leinberger was voted one of the “The 100 Most Influential Urbanists” of all time in a poll conducted by Planetizen in 2017. He was the 2010 William H. Whyte Urbanism Award winner from Partners for Livable Places.
